A Dollar and a Dream

A month ago today, I moved to NYC with a dollar and a dream. To know me is to know who much I admire (obsess over) J.Cole. So the title of this post is in reference to one of his songs. Perhaps the most reoccurring theme in his music is the persistence and tenacity it took for him to reach his own dreams in the Big Apple. So, admiring J.Cole's determination, I decided to take a similar path.

When I say a "dollar" I'm not using it as a euphemism—I mean it. By the time I got my first full-time offer in NY out of college , I hadn't saved a dime. Mainly because I was only working part-time so I could devote my time to finding a job full-time. So the first month I moved here, I was staying with friends and sleeping on couches (thank God for friends, amiright?)

Now I've finally moved into an apartment in the Bronx. But the same problem persist—I'm still poor. I don't make much money at this job and my bills/rent ain't going nowhere. Eating ramen and peanut butter & jelly has become routine. I work long, hard days and still come home to work on my brand until bedtime. But the work I do is so rewarding because what I put in is what I get out. And I know that it is moving me closer to my dreams.
